A place of honor
Dear friend, it’s a joy to greet you today. We are going to meditate on Psalm 18:19, where David declares, “The Lord brought me into a broad place. He rescued me because He was pleased with me and delighted in me.” Why does David say this? In the previous verse, he says he had strong enemies—“many hated me,” and he acknowledges, “they were too mighty for me.” Yet in verse 20, David continues, “The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands, He rewarded me.” The Lord rescued David because He was pleased with David. David was a man after God’s own heart.
As it says in Psalm 37:23, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and the Lord delights in his way.” Yes, when we lead a righteous life, the Lord is pleased to rescue us. In Psalm 18:36, David also says, “You enlarge my steps under me, and my feet did not slip.” Truly, the steps of a righteous person are ordered by the Lord—the righteous man never falls. David was hiding from Saul, his enemy, for a long time—more than ten years. During this time, he lived in the wilderness. But the Lord rescued him from this difficult season. The Lord delivered him from all his enemies. David testifies, “The Lord rescued me and brought me to a broad place.” This broad place refers to a place of freedom. No longer was David confined by danger; the Lord gave him liberty.
Today, God has given us His Spirit, so we too can enjoy this freedom. As the Bible says in II Corinthians 3:17, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” When we are filled with the Spirit of God, the Lord brings us into a spacious place—a life of spiritual abundance and freedom. Not only that, in Ephesians 2:6, the Bible says, “God has raised us with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms.” This is the broad place we have in Christ, a place of honour! How much the Lord honours us by making us sit with Christ in heavenly places. When we have the Spirit of God within us, we are surely rewarded. The Lord will bring us into a spacious place, a life of peace, freedom, and fellowship with Christ.
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being the One who rescues me from every strong enemy and from every overwhelming situation. Just as You brought David into a broad place, please bring me also into a broad place which You have prepared for me. Let Your delight be always upon me. Help me to walk in righteousness, with clean hands and a pure heart. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit because where Your Spirit is, there is freedom. Thank You for preparing a way for me to be seated in the heavenly places of honour, victory, and peace with Christ Jesus. I believe that You will guide my every step and will never let my feet slip. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
