Feast of Passover! – Dr. Paul Dhinakaran

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:26)
Beloved! Passover is celebrated today. This is the day wherein we are reminded of the last meal that the Lord Jesus Christ had with His disciples. He took the bread and wine, blessed them and gave them to His disciples to remind them that He committed to give His body on the cross for the redemption of mankind. As He sat at the table along with His disciples for Passover, He remembered the sufferings that He had to undergo for the sake of mankind. “And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” (Luke 22: 19,20).

Moreover, Jesus was troubled in spirit and said, “One of you will betray me” (John 13:21). As the time for betrayal drew near, He took the three disciples closest to Him, i.e., Peter, James and John to the garden of Gethsemane and began to be sorrowful and very heavy and said, “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: stay here, and watch with me.” He went a little farther and said, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou will”. (Matthew 26: 36-42). As He returned after praying, He saw all three of them sleeping. There was none to pray with Him. Though He was the image of the Almighty God Who does not know death, still He was troubled in loneliness and was praying.  His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground (Luke 22:44).

Yes! Death is cruel. He obeyed his Father and gave Himself as a sacrificial offering and endured sufferings in His body for the sins committed by every man. What great sacrifice! Immeasurable love of God. The Lord Who gave Himself as a sacrifice for you will never forsake you under any circumstance. Even today, as you are in any sort of troubled situation, the Lord is all powerful to change everything. Have in mind that He Who sacrificed His life for you is also mighty to heal and protect you. “You too eat this bread and drink from this cup. Thus you show the Lord’s death till he comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26). The Lord will save you and give you a new life.

Prayer:
My loving Jesus,

You came into this world to show love on people like me who live with shortcomings and also to forgive those shortcomings. Thank You for the revelation that You have given us to remember the Passover till You come again. You gave up Your body on the cross for us. How great is your love! Give me the grace to reflect this love. Since You humbled Yourself, even though You are the Son of God, I too humble and dedicate myself to you. Make me good and bless me.

I give all praise, honour, and glory to You alone.

Amen!
